May 21, 2018 · Pánfilo de Narváez. 1470?-1528. Spanish conquistador and colonial official who explored Cuba, Mexico, and Florida in search of gold and glory for himself and Spain. In 1498, Narváez emigrated to Hispaniola to seek adventure and fortune as a soldier.
Panfilo de Narvaez was a Spanish explorer and soldier who helped conquer Cuba in 1511 and led a Spanish royal expedition to North America in 1527. After surviving a hurricane near Cuba, his expedition landed on the west coast of Florida , near Tampa Bay, in April 1528, claiming the land for Spain.

Pánfilo de Narváez ( b. ca. 1478/80; d. 1528), Spanish soldier. Born in Valmanzano, Segovia, Spain, Narváez came to the New World around 1498. A veteran of military engagements in Jamaica, he helped to lead the bloody conquest of Cuba in 1510–1514.

Narváez was born in about 1478 in Valladolid, Spain. As a young man, he entered military service and became one of the first Spanish settlers of Jamaica.
