   How did the Chicago Park District become a park district?

   • In 1934, the Chicago Park District wasformed by the consolidation of the existingpark districts. By combining forces, the Chicago Park District was able to issue $6 million in bonds to secure WPA assistance formassive improvement programs. Throughout the WPA years (1935-1941) over $ 100million was spent on Chicago parks.
