The Cathedral of the Theotokos is one of the most ancient churches of Vilnius, built before the christianization of Lithuania when the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was the last pagan state in Europe. It became an important spiritual centre for the growing Christian population of the Duchy.

Cathedral of the Theotokos. The Church of the Blessed Mother of God, the Orthodox Cathedral of Vilnius, was built in 1346. Throughout its history, the building has been regularly restored, the last renovation having taken place between 1980 and 1998.
The cathedral was built in 1346 during the reign of Grand Duke Algirdas for his Orthodox second wife, Uliana of Tver. It is one of the oldest buildings in Vilnius and has witnessed many important events in Lithuania's history.
