Courken George Deukmejian Jr. (/ dj uː k ˈ m eɪ dʒ ən /; June 6, 1928 – May 8, 2018) was an American politician who served as the 35th governor of California from 1983 to 1991. A member of the Republican Party, he was the state's first governor of Armenian descent. Born in New York, Deukmejian moved to California in 1955.
