David Croft was born on 7 September 1922 in Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset, England, UK. He was a writer and producer, known for Dad's Army (1968), Hi-de-Hi! (1980) and Are You Being Served? (1972). He was married to Ann Croft. He died on 27 September 2011 in Tavira, Portugal.
