Sir William Frederick Cotton CBE (23 April 1928 – 11 August 2008) was a British television producer and executive, and the son of dance band leader Billy Cotton. The television and radio presenter Fearne Cotton is related to him, as he was her paternal grandfather's cousin.

William Edward Cotton (6 May 1899 – 25 March 1969) as Billy Cotton was an English band leader and entertainer, one of the few whose orchestras survived the British dance band era. Cotton is now mainly remembered as a 1950s and 1960s radio and television personality, but his musical career had begun in the 1920s.
As the BBC’s head of light entertainment from 1970 to ’77 and controller of BBC1 from 1977-81, Cotton presided over a golden age in British television. His tenure saw the arrival of popular favourites including The Morecombe & Wise Show, The Generation Game, Parkinson and The Two Ronnies.
