Lafayette Square (formerly Court House Park or Courthouse Square [1]) is a park in the center of downtown Buffalo, Erie County, New York, United States, that hosts a Civil War monument. The block, which was once square, is lined by many of the city's tallest buildings.
The monument. The completed monument was standing in Lafayette Square before the last day of 1883, but dedication ceremonies had been set for the following year. The features of the monument still appear today as they did in 1883: A nameless stone lady, "emblematic of Buffalo," sits atop the 85-foot column.

It was Buffalo’s largest office building, and around 1880, it was the home of many businesses that endured for generations, like Michael Shea’s Music Hall and TC Tanke’s smith shop.
