Bertrand (or Bertram) of Saint-Geniès (1258 – 6 June 1350) was the patriarch of Aquileia from 1334 until his death. Biography. Bertram was born in Gascony, and became a jurist in the University of Toulouse and papal chaplain.
Bertrand of Saint-Geniès. According to his school ‘cursus’ Bertrand should have been born around 1280-1285 in a family, the Saint-Geniès, of feudal descent. In 1311 Bertrand appears qualified as a ‘doctor decretorum’ in the records of the juridical faculty of Toulouse.
Focus of this study is the life of Bertrand of Saint-Geniès. It follows his career from his university studies, to his years first at the Papal Curia in Avignon and then at the Patriarchy in Aquileia, up to his violent death on June 6th, 1350.
