The Melchizedek is a surname to the Assyrian king who rushed for the support of his own countryman, Abraham. By the way, during the time of Abraham, Talmud which again is an Assyrian word for "discipline" was not yet in existence.
Melchizedek was king of Salem (= Jerusalem) and "a priest unto 'El `Elyon" ( Genesis 14:18 ). He brought bread and wine to Abraham after the latter's victory over the kings, and also bestowed upon him the blessing of 'El `Elyon.
