Lipscani is a historic street and district in Bucharest, Romania, known for its nightlife, restaurants and shops. It was named after Leipzig, the origin of many traders, and has a mix of old and new buildings, including the ruins of the old Princely Court.

While much of Bucharest changed beyond recognition after 1989, nothing compared to the transformation of Old Town/Lipscani during the boom years of the late naughties, which saw what was very much a no-go area with almost nothing to offer visitors into one of the Romanian capital’s liveliest entertainment districts.
Lipscani comprises a small area around Lipscani Street, between Calea Victoriei to the east and B-dul I.C. Bratianu to the west, Piata Universitatiei to the north and the Dambovita River to the south. The name comes from 'Lipsca' - a reference to the German city of Leipzig.
Lipscani is one of the main thoroughfares through Bucharest's Old Town district. As you'd expect, it's full of places to eat and drink, mixed in with shops, and the occasional church or civic building.
