Statilia Messalina, the third wife of Nero, survived his death in 68 CE but was prevented from marrying Marcus Salvius Otho the following year due to his defeat at Bedriacum and subsequent suicide. Otho had been declared emperor by his troops in January 69, but his reign was short-lived.
