Eugène Rose de Beauharnais ([øʒɛn də boaʁnɛ]; 3 September 1781 – 21 February 1824) was a French nobleman, statesman, and military commander who served during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.
Eugène de Beauharnais (born September 3, 1781, Paris, France—died February 21, 1824, Munich, Bavaria [now in Germany]) was a soldier, prince of the French First Empire, and viceroy of Italy for Napoleon I, who was his stepfather (from 1796) and adoptive father (from 1806).
Eugène was officially adopted by Napoleon on 12 January, 1806. He renounced his rights to the crown of France, but was called to the succession of the throne of Italy after the emperor and his direct descendants.
