Henry V (German: Heinrich V.; probably 11 August 1081 or 1086 – 23 May 1125) was King of Germany (from 1099 to 1125) and Holy Roman Emperor (from 1111 to 1125), as the fourth and last ruler of the Salian dynasty. He was made co-ruler by his father, Henry IV, in 1098.

Sep 11, 2020 · After his father’s death, Henry V succeeded him as Holy Roman Emperor. Henry began his reign by consolidating his power and contacting Pope Paschal II. The emperor attempted to end the Investiture Controversy, but only if the pope granted him the right to appoint bishops.
Concordat of Worms, compromise arranged in 1122 between Pope Calixtus II (1119–24) and the Holy Roman emperor Henry V (reigned 1106–25) settling the Investiture Controversy, a struggle between the empire and the papacy over the control of church offices. It had arisen between Emperor Henry IV.

Apr 21, 2021 · In 1111, following a failed compromise over lay investiture, Henry had Paschal abducted, demanding the pope to acknowledge his investiture rights and to crown him Holy Roman Emperor. Paschal’s submission to Henry was nullified after his release by a church council on the basis of his imprisonment.
