Caratacus (Brythonic *Caratācos, Middle Welsh Caratawc; Welsh Caradog; Breton Karadeg; Greek: Καράτακος; variants Latin: Caractacus, Greek: Καταράκατος) was a 1st-century AD British chieftain of the Catuvellauni tribe, who resisted the Roman conquest of Britain.
Caratacus was the king of a large area in southern Britain, son of Cunobelinus. Caratacus was from the Catuvellauni tribe, but his kingdom included other peoples, most notably the Trinovantes. He ruled an area that embraced the Atrebates of Hampshire and probably the Dobunni of Gloucestershire.
