Hortense Eugénie Cécile Bonaparte (French pronunciation: [ɔʁtɑ̃s øʒeni sesil bɔnapaʁt]; née de Beauharnais, pronounced [də boaʁnɛ]; 10 April 1783 – 5 October 1837) was Queen consort of Holland. She was the stepdaughter of Emperor Napoléon I as the daughter of his first wife, Joséphine de Beauharnais.

Hortense de Beauharnais was destined to play a role in history if only because Napoleon I was her stepfather. She was born in Paris, France, in 1783, the daughter of Alexander, vicomte de Beauharnais, and Joséphine Tascher de la Pagerie, later Empress Josephine.
In the summer of 1795, Hortense was sent to the Institution Nationale de Saint-Germain (a girls’ school) founded and directed by Madame Campan, ex-First Lady-in-waiting to Marie-Antoinette. Hortense was to find here a climate of confidence which gave her room to blossom.
Hortense de Beauharnais died on October 5, 1837 of uterus cancer, in her Arenenberg castle, on southern bank of the Lake Constance, in Switzerland. She is buried near her mother in the Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul Church of Rueil-Malmaison.
