Saka no Ue no Kumo (坂の上の雲), or "Clouds Above the Hill" is a Japanese historical novel by Shiba Ryōtarō originally published serially from 1968 to 1972 in eight volumes. A three-year NHK television special drama series based on the novel and also entitled Saka no Ue no Kumo was shown in thirteen episodes from 2009 to 2011.

7/10. Good historical drama. ashrnab 3 January 2022. Good historical mini-series about Japan and its development during the Meiji era, focuses on the development of the Navy, Cavalry and Haiku poetry. Interesting to see Sino-Japanese interactions as well. Quite optimistic and an easy watch, despite the long episodes (1h30 each).
