The first season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, an American police procedural television series, was developed by Dick Wolf and René Balcer. It began airing on September 30, 2001, on NBC, a national broadcast television network in the United States. It is the second spin-off of the long-running crime drama Law & Order .
With Kathryn Erbe, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jamey Sheridan, Courtney B. Vance. Follows the New York City Police Department's (NYPD) Major Case Squad (MCS), a force of detectives who investigate high-profile murder cases, while also showing parts of the crime from the perpetrator's point of view.

The first season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent premiered on September 30, 2001 and concluded on May 10, 2002. It was initially scheduled to air on September 23, 2001 but due to the September 11 attacks, the premiere was pushed forward a week due to delays in production as a result of the attacks as well as to allow more possible news coverage about the aftermath of the attacks.
It aired alongside season twelve of Law & Order and season three of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Just like the premiere episodes of both shows, the season started with a special dedication to the emergency services and victims, both deceased and alive, of the September 11 attacks.
