The Sonnet Project is a tapestry of cinematic art that infuses the poetry of William Shakespeare into the poetry of the world in which we live. It’s huge, it’s visceral and it’s right here. We began with the goal of creating 154 films in the five boroughs of New York City.

In 2013 actor and director Ross Williams, founder of the nonprofit New York Shakespeare Exchange, set out to film all 154 of Shakespeare’s sonnets, each performed by a different actor in a New York City location. After raising nearly $50,000 through a Kickstarter campaign, filming began.
