A seraph (/ ˈ s ɛr ə f /; pl.: seraphim / ˈ s ɛr ə f ɪ m /) is a celestial or heavenly being originating in Ancient Judaism. The term plays a role in subsequent Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Tradition places seraphim in the highest rank in Christian angelology and in the fifth rank of ten in the Jewish angelic hierarchy.

May 22, 2024 · In Christian angelology, Seraphim are the red-winged angels who, with Cherubim, are among the first hierarchy of angels next to the throne of God. According to the Old Testament Book of Isaiah, they have six wings: one pair for flying, another covering the face, and the third covering the feet.
Seraphim were prob. an order of supernatural or angelic beings similar to the cherubim (q.v.) possibly related to the living creatures of Revelation 4:6-8. They stood beside or hovered above the heavenly throne of God as functionaries and attendants.
