1626. Roger Conant arrives, settling what would become Salem. In the autumn of 1626, Roger Conant began a settlement in what is today Salem. Born in England, Conant came from the Plymouth Colony south of Boston to found a fishing station in what is today Gloucester, Massachusetts.
