The affair between a wealthy, alcoholic woman's husband and her distant cousin leads to the wife's murder. Virgil immediately suspects the adulterous pair. But he has a difficult time persuading Gillespie, who is a longtime friend of the husband, and Bubba, who has been seeing the cousin.
