The Lunch Money Ripoff is the twenty-fourth and season finale episode of Season 2 and the thirty-seventh episode overall. The episode was written by John Baskin and Roger Shulman, and directed by Herbert Kenwith. It originally aired on CBS-TV on March 18, 1975.

James tries to teach Michael some tactics on how to handle an extortionist at school. Michael has his own ideas and invites him over to their home for the weekend.

An extortionist bullies Michael into handing over his lunch money on a daily basis. When the rest of the family finds out, turmoil erupts as they argue about how Michael should deal with the bully as a classmate.

Michael (Ralph Carter) is bullied by an extortionist named Eddie (Douglas Grant), who has been stealing his lunch money. James (John Amos) advises Michael to duke it out with his young nemesis, but Michael surprises James - and the rest of the family - when he decides to invite Eddie to spend the weekend at their home.

They learn that Eddie is one of six children with a largely absent mother and a father who isn't a part of their lives. Eddie also has bad manners and a major attitude problem. James eventually spanks Eddie with his belt, believing it should have been done long ago. Eddie is shocked and thinks he shouldn't stay, and he didn't know anyone could be hurt and cared about at the same time. Florida tells Eddie that she and James discipline their children because they love them, and that's what caring is all about.  Eddie decides to stay, and Michael helps him with their homework assignment while Eddie sits on a pillow for his sore behind!
