"It's Personal" is the second episode of the first season of Almost Paradise. The episode first aired on April 6, 2020, on WGN America (now NewsNation).
Late at night at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport a private jet lands and approaches the hangar without clearance. Security guard Lester Cordero goes to investigate but his partner shoots and kills him, receiving a bribe from the occupants.
The next morning at the hotel, Alex Walker is doing some chores around the gift shop with the help of Rita Cordero, the young daughter of one of the maids at the hotel. In exchange for her help, Rita Cordero asks Alex for a geode which Alex initially denies but eventually relents. However, this is interrupted by the police and Rita's mother who come to pick up Rita as they have just found the body of her father, the security guard.
The security guard, Lester Cordero, was a friend of Detective Ernesto Alamares, who takes the death personally and becomes determined to catch the killer. Meanwhile, his partner Kai Mendoza and Alex Walker go undercover to find who was at the airport that night. They realize that there is an upcoming meeting at the hotel between Catherine Himmel, a high-end illegal goods provider, and Max Adler, a Texan millionaire. Alex intercepts Max at the hotel, claiming to be Catherine's assistant, and lures him to the gift shop where Kai is waiting and pretending to be Catherine. Max sees through the ruse, however, and is knocked out by Alex before he can do anything. Alex then takes Max's place to go meet with Catherine. Catherine and Alex leave the hotel and go to a club with the police following. Alex has a panic attack in the club's bathroom, but recovers and is able to continue the meeting. Catherine then takes him to the airport hangar where the goods are being kept on the private jet. The jet is opened and, to Alex's horror, the merchandise is revealed to be several young girls. Alex signals the police and attacks Catherine and her men. Following a shootout, Catherine and the traffickers are arrested.
While this was going on, Ernesto was tracking the killer. After not having any luck at his place of residence, he tracks him to a local gang hideout, where he is attacked by multiple local gang members. He successfully fends them off and arrests the killer.
