Ernest Howard Shepard OBE MC (10 December 1879 – 24 March 1976) was an English artist and book illustrator. He is known especially for illustrations of the anthropomorphic animal and soft toy characters in The Wind in the Willows and Winnie-the-Pooh .

Ernest’s father, Henry, was an architect from a highly respected family, and his mother was the daughter of distinguished watercolorist, William Lee.
Ernest H. Shepard was known for his illustrations for The Wind in the Willows and Winnie-the-Pooh. He also worked for Punch magazine and designed covers for Victorian novels.

Ernest Howard Shepard (1879 - 1976) RA Collection: People and Organisations. English artist and book illustrator. He is known especially for his illustrations of A.A Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh, and Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in the Willows. Shepard studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1897-1902.
