Edward Joseph Dwight Jr. (born September 9, 1933) is an American sculptor, author, former test pilot, and astronaut. He is the first African American to have entered the Air Force training program from which NASA selected astronauts. He was controversially not selected to officially join NASA.

Air Force Pilot and America's First Black Astronaut Candidate. Born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, Ed left in 1953 to join the U.S. Air Force. After completing pilot training, he served as a military fighter pilot and obtained a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Arizona State University.
