Edgar Quinet was born on 17th February, 1803 at Bourg-en-Bresse, France. He was an only child and was strongly influenced by his mother (Eugénie Rozat Lagis). He attended school at Bourg-en-Bresse and Lyon. He moved to Paris in 1820 to begin a life in literature, much against parental wishes.
