The Maltese Parliament is an institution that operates under a set of rules which have been modeled on the British House of Commons’ general rules of procedure, but which have been tailored to suit the needs of a much smaller Parliament.
Constitutional framework. The 1964 constitution, under which Malta became an independent monarchy and parliamentary state, was amended in 1974 to make Malta a republic within the Commonwealth. Malta is currently a unitary multiparty republic.
