Smolensk Oblast (Russian: Смоленская область, romanized: Smolenskaya oblast'), informally also called Smolenshchina (Смоленщина), is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative centre is the city of Smolensk. As of the 2021 Census, its population was 888,421.
