Alachua (/ ə ˈ l æ tʃ u eɪ / ⓘ ə-LATCH-oo-ay) is the second-largest city in Alachua County, Florida and the third-largest in North Central Florida. According to the 2020 census, the city's population was 10,574, up from 9,059 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

- Feed the Horses at Mill Creek Farm. This nonprofit equine sanctuary provides elderly horses with room to roam. On Saturday afternoons, visitors are invited to come by and say hello, all for the reasonable admission rate of two carrots (to feed to your new friends!).
- Take a Walking History Tour of Downtown Alachua. Bradford pear trees and historic lampposts line the charming streets of Main Street Alachua. The town was founded in 1905, so you’ll find turn-of-the-century architecture, grand Victorian homes, and vintage charm everywhere you turn.
- Have Tea at Teatime Tranquility and Treasures. It’s hard to miss the sprawling Victorian house, complete with rose pink trim and a white picket fence, as you stroll through downtown Alachua.
- San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park. On Alachua’s southeast side, this state park is on the site of a Spanish mission founded in 1606. That mission was by the main settlement for the Potano Native American tribe, and there are more than 50 archeological sites within the park.
- Alachua Main Street. Alachua has what may be the finest downtown district in North Central Florida. I’d recommend taking some time to wander the charming stretch of Main Street south of US 441.
- Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park. Something astonishing awaits you on the way to Gainesville ten minutes from downtown Alachua. At Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park you can enter a peculiar natural bowl, 500 feet in diameter and 120 feet deep.
- Mill Creek Preserve. A few minutes north of downtown there’s more than 1,200 acres of secluded woodlands at the headquarters of three creeks. While hiking at Mill Creek Preserve I passed through what is the southernmost stand of American beech trees.
