Dent is a village and civil parish in Cumbria, England, within the historic boundaries of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It lies in Dentdale, a narrow valley on the western slopes of the Pennines within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, 4 miles (6 km) south east of Sedbergh and 8 miles (13 km) north east of Kirkby Lonsdale.
With its narrow, cobbled main street, white-walled cottages and ancient village church, set in a deep, narrow valley, Dent, in Cumbria, is one of the loveliest of Dales villages.
This ancient Dales village is approached by winding roads amid beautiful scenery, but its age means motorists have to tolerate some inconvenience. Much of the road surface is cobbled. There is a large car park (e-vehicles supported) with public toilets.

Dent is the highest railway station in England, at over 1100 feet above sea level, on the famous Carlisle to Settle Railway. The line crosses the huge viaducts at Arten Gill and Dent Head, built of massive blocks of Dent ‘marble’, from the now-disused quarries nearby, before going through the Blea Moor tunnel to Ribblehead viaduct.
