May 31, 2024 · History. In 1897 the Town Meeting voted to reorganize the police department and place it on a permanent basis making it the first full-time police force in the town. The Selectmen appointed Thomas Oliver Drinkwater Urquhart at the first full-time Police Chief and appointed as full-time patrolman Leonard Andrews and two reserve officers.
