Nördlingen (German: [ˈnœʁt.lɪŋ.ən] ⓘ; Swabian: Nearle or Nearleng) is a town in the Donau-Ries district, in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany, with a population of approximately 20,674. It is located approximately 115 km (71 mi) east of Stuttgart , and 145 km (90 mi) northwest of Munich .
The construction of the wall began circa 1327 and replaced an older defense wall. Nördlingen is only one of three towns in Germany with an intact city wall - the other two towns being Dinkelsbühl and Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Of the three however, the Nördlingen city wall is the best preserved and one can walk around the entire town on the wall.
