Northwood is a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 4,641 at the 2020 census. [2] History. East Northwood c. 1910. First settled in 1763, Northwood was incorporated on February 6, 1773, by colonial governor John Wentworth, when a large tract of land called "North Woods" was separated from Nottingham.

Northwood, a bucolic town in southeastern New Hampshire, was founded in 1773 when its first settlers successfully petitioned the Governor's Council requesting separation from Nottingham. Since this section of Nottingham had been known as the great north woods, the newly formed town was called Northwood.
