May 4, 2022 · About 30 miles northeast of Indianapolis, Anderson is a city named for the Delaware Chief William Anderson who founded a village on the White River in the late 18th century. One important phase in Anderson’s history began in the 1880s when natural gas was discovered in the city during the Indiana gas boom.
