Blue Springs is a city in Jackson County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. Blue Springs is located 19 miles (31 km) east of Kansas City. It is the 8th largest city in the Kansas City metropolitan area and 10th largest city in the state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 58,604.
Blue Springs’ history is tied to the migration of settlers on their westward journey. Pioneers found the area to be an ideal stopover due to the abundance of cool, clean water from a spring of the Little Blue River - hence the name Blue Springs.
- Sculpture Tour. I found numerous sculptures while walking through the downtown area, as well as the parks. You can easily spend one full day touring Blue Springs to see all of the beautiful sculptures.
- Pink Hill Park. The Veteran’s Way Memorial is located in Pink Hill Park. If you only have time to visit one park while in Blue Springs, see this one. This park also had a Competition BMX Race Course, horseshoe pits, sand volleyball courts, playgrounds, and much more.
- Central Park. Central Park is home to a beautiful community garden project. Gardeners rent spaces throughout the season and harvest their garden produce.
- Explore Colonial Gardens In Blue Springs, Missouri. Colonial Gardens was one of my favorite finds on my visit to Blue Springs. Their tagline for their business is, “Shaping hearts and minds through food, flowers, and trees.”
No Better Place to Call Home. Blue Springs was founded by pioneers in 1827 along the cooling spring waters of the Little Blue River. In the last 2 decades the city has grown to 58,603 residents holding the distinction of being the 10th largest city in Missouri.
There are 19 public parks, numerous shelters and playgrounds, a disc golf course, dog park, an 18 hole golf course and two skate parks in Blue Springs. There is an extensive recreation program with a wide variety of leisure opportunities and over 200 activities and events offered annually.
