Chester is a small rural city in Chester County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 5,607 at the 2010 census, down from 6,476 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Chester County.
The quiet town of Chester is a history buff’s dream - from Monument Square, “the heart of the city,” at the top of the Hill to the business district down in the Valley. Most of the structures downtown were built between 1870 and 1900.
