Denison, city, Grayson county, north-central Texas, U.S., situated near the Oklahoma border and 73 miles (117 km) north of Dallas. The city of Sherman lies to the south and Lake Texoma, impounded on the Red River by Denison Dam, to the northwest. Originally a stop on the Southern Overland Mail.
Denison is a veritable hotspot for outdoor recreation, but it offers an ample amount of urban sophistication in an equally compelling measure. The town is just a few miles south of Lake Texoma, the third largest lake in Texas and one of the state’s most popular vacation destinations.

Founded in 1872, the City of Denison was named after Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT) Vice-President George Denison. Today, the MKT, better known as Katy Railroad, has merged with the Union Pacific. From its beginning, the railroad has been an important part of the city.
