Lewes (/ ˈ l uː ɪ s / ⓘ) is the county town of East Sussex, England. The town is the administrative centre of the wider district of the same name and the location of East Sussex County Council at the county hall. A traditional market town and centre of communications, in 1264 it was the site of the Battle of Lewes.

Lewes is the market town of East Sussex, located about 8.5 miles North-East of Brighton. It’s famed for its medieval streets, independent retailers and historic features including Lewes Castle and the ruins of Lewes Priory set within Priory Park.
Climb Mount Caburn. Mount Caburn is around a 10-minute drive from Lewes and is a peak, near the village of Glynde. You can walk up to the top from the village of Glynde – the footpath is on Ranscombe Lane, opposite The Little Cottage Tea Room And Garden.
