Mar 5, 2021 · Lewiston is one of the closest major settlements to the breathtaking but extremely remote Hells Canyon, found about fifty miles up the Snake River. This is the deepest river gorge in the United States, at almost 8,000 feet, and road access is impossible for almost the entire length of the canyon.
