Moreton-in-Marsh is one of the principal market towns in the northern Cotswolds situated on the Fosse Way and now served by the main line railway from London Paddington. It grew up in the thirteenth century as a market town with a wide main street, narrow burgage plots and back lanes.

Moreton In Marsh is a pretty market town in the north Gloucestershire Cotswolds. The chocolate box houses here are built mainly of the honey-coloured stone quarried from the local area. The name is said to derive from the old English Moreton for a farm on the moor and ‘in Marsh’ possibly from henne and mersh, from a marsh used by birds.
