The village of New Denver is located near the northeastern end of Slocan Lake, 100 km north of Nelson. The site was first called Eldorado, then New Denver (1892), after Denver, Colorado.
Founded in 1892 on the shores of Slocan Lake, the Village of New Denver saw its first houses built by the calloused hands of mining prospectors. Briefly known as Eldorado City, before being renamed after Denver Colorado, New Denver was incorporated as a village in 1929.
New Denver is located in the Arrow Lakes & Slocan Valley at the junction of Hwy 6 and Hwy 31A, 46 km (29 mi) southeast of Nakusp, 46 km (29 mi) west of Kaslo on Hwy 31A. Other nearby communities to explore include: Nakusp, Slocan and Winlaw.

New Denver is a village of about 500 people (2011) in the West Kootenays of British Columbia on the east shore of Slocan Lake. It hosted an internment camp for people with ancestry in enemy nations during World War II; some attractions in the town relate to that time.
