Rawlins is a city in Carbon County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 8,221 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Carbon County. It was named for Union General John Aaron Rawlins, who camped in the locality in 1867.

John Rawlins, a member of the 1867 surveying party that established a Union Pacific Railroad route across Wyoming. “I think the best way to experience Carbon County is to find lodging you’d like to be at for a few days,” Jefferson said. “Then you can take multiple day trips and scenic drives.”
This is a large and very beautiful national forest with lots of wildlife, scenic views and some of the most undisturbed nature in the United States. This forest extends south all the way into Steamboat Springs Colorado.
