  2. Apr 16, 2015 · Our collections are especially strong on Waco and Baylor images, but look for some views beyond the Heart of Texas, too. Local businessman, philanthropist, and Baylor alum Isaac A. Goldstein helped persuade Andrew Carnegie to contribute $30,000 in grants to construct Waco’s Carnegie library.

  3. Anyone who has attended or visited Baylor University would recognize the familiar spires of Old Main as markers of the historic heart of campus. Built in 1887, Old Main was the first building constructed by Baylor in Waco.

Baylor University’s Main building (1887) and Georgia Burleson Hall (1888) were the first two structures built when the institution moved from Independence, TX.

  5. Aug 6, 2024 · It was like this until the Cameron Home was torn down in 1960 for the construction of the current Waco- McLennan County Library, which opened in 1962. The photo of HEB was contributed by Myron Patrick King and the photo of the Cameron House is from The Texas Collection, Baylor University.

  6. Waco images number in the thousands and date to the 1860’s. Some examples include: military, city streets, rivers, bridges, parks, and businesses. Also included are the works of important local photographers such as Fred Gildersleeve, Fred Marlar, Jimmie Willis, and Windy Drum.
