Aug 15, 2023 · The Cairo Opera House has finally announced the schedule for the 31st edition of its annual Saladin Citadel music festival. Between August 25th and September 7th, the Cairo Citadel will light up with song and festivities organised by the Cairo Opera House in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The Citadel was begun by the Kurdish Ayyubid ruler Salah al-Din between 1176 and 1183 CE in order to protect Cairo from potential Crusader attacks and to provide a secure center of government for his new regime (only a few years after he had dismantled the Fatimid Caliphate).
