    • Midlife Crisis (Angel Dust, 1992) Legend has it that the crown jewel of 1992’s Angel Dust was inspired by Madonna’s floundering early-’90s pop career, and her seemingly directionless overexposure across TV and radio at the time. ‘
    • The Real Thing (The Real Thing, 1989) ‘I know the feeling / It is the real thing / The essence of the soul…’ The spine-tingling title-track to their 1989 breakthrough LP feels like peak Faith No More to many fans.
    • We Care A Lot (Introduce Yourself, 1987) ‘We care a lot about disasters, fires, floods and killer bees / We care a lot about the NASA shuttle falling in the sea / We care a lot about starvation and the food that Live Aid bought / We care a lot about disease, baby Rock, Hudson, rock, yeah…’ Faith No More’s first unequivocal classic dates back before Mike Patton’s time with the band to that of underrated early singer Chuck Mosley.
    • Epic (The Real Thing, 1989) Faith No More’s breakthrough hit does exactly what it says on the tin. Narrowing focus from that opening widescreen riff to a thumping bass and Mike’s hooky-as-hell rap (the singer was apparently trying to invoke the same feel as Blondie’s Rapture), the track became an early ’90s anthem, offering the same funkiness and flair as early Red Hot Chili Peppers with far more mystery and heft.

    • The Real Thing – The Real Thing (1989) You know a great song immediately as you feel the shivers run down your spine. You raise your head up and inexplicably exhale slowly in a hope that you can extend the feeling.
    • Be Aggressive – Angel Dust (1992) Most people wouldn’t put this so high up their list, but I have never been most people. It’s here for more reason than just the provocative lyrics and punchy music, though.
    • Epic – The Real Thing (1989) You find me a person that claims not to know this song and I’ll show you a liar. There is a reason this song is so well known: it is awesome.
    • We Care A Lot – Introduce Yourself (1987) Although obviously written and recorded as the titular track to their first album, this is the definitive recording of the song for good reason.
    • Angel Dust (1992) Already realizing the rap-rock schtick was a dead end, the band jettisoned it to make way for the eclectic batch of songs found here.
    • King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime (1995) Jim Martin’s signature riffage is absent, as the guitarist fucked off to become a farmer, apparently unhappy with the band’s broadening musical direction (allegedly accusing FNM of playing “gay disco”).
    • The Real Thing (1989) Ditching original singer Mosley, the band poached a baby Mike Patton from Mr. Bungle, who reportedly wrote the album’s lyrics in just two weeks.
    • Sol Invictus (2015) 18 years after their previous album, FNM returned refreshed and invigorated, with the reunited band sounding excited to be making music together again.
    • Epic (The Real Thing, 1990) “This is by far the BEST Faith No More song, it really should be number one. If you get the chance watch the music video, and buy the album cause its completely awesome.
    • Midlife Crisis (Angel Dust, 1992) “It’s so good and kinda gives off the whole midlife crisis vibe(I might be wrong, I’m still a teen so I’ve never experienced one yet) so it sure lives up to the name.
    • Zombie Eaters (The Real Thing, 1989) “I love how it starts really calm and then it gets loud. Both parts are equally great though. Brilliant song. I love the songs on this album after the more well known ones.”
    • The Real Thing (The Real Thing, 1989) “They opened with “The Real Thing” when I saw them a few weeks ago, and I nearly burst out of my skin! So hard to pick a favorite song, but this one might be the best–perhaps even better than “Midlife Crisis”.
