    Why was Gentilly Terrace built?

    • Pumping stations and drainage systems designed by S&WB founding engineer A. Baldwin Wood, allowed the land north and east of the French Quarter to be drained and made usable for the construction of homes and businesses. Gentilly Terrace was a development that, by design, sat on a natural ridge formed by the overflow of Bayou Sauvage.
