Start at the Aspen Grove trailhead for Mt. Timpanogos. Go straight up the southwest side of Primrose Cirque and keep climbing until it levels out continue past East Timp to the shelter by Emerald Lake. From Emerald Lake, skin up where the snowfield is during the summer (south from the shelter).
May 8, 2023 · A short steady climb, maybe a half mile will lead you to Emerald Lake. This is nearly 6 miles into the Mount Timpanogos hike. There is a small lake that flows from the “glacier” (thus the green water).
The trail also takes you to the Hidden Lakes basin followed by the well-known Emerald Lake. The trail then stretches towards the saddle across a boulder field where it joins with the Timpooneke trail offering great views of Utah Valley.

If you choose to hike this trail, you’ll pass Emerald Lake and meet up with the Timpooneke Trail at the Timpanogos saddle. The trail is well marked and maintained, but it’s still important to carry a map and compass, or a GPS.
