Based on the 1922 play The Awful Truth by Arthur Richman, the film recounts a distrustful rich couple who begin divorce proceedings, only to interfere with one another's romances.
Dunne followed Theodora Goes Wild with other romantic and comedic roles. The Awful Truth (1937) [78] was the first of three films also starring Cary Grant and was later voted the 68th best comedy in American cinema history by the American Film Institute. [79]
