James Douglas Pillen (born December 31, 1955) is an American politician, veterinarian and livestock producer serving as the 41st and current governor of Nebraska since 2023. A member of the Republican Party, Pillen served on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents from 2013 to 2023.

Jan 5, 2023 · Listen To This Story. Former State Board of Regents member and pig farmer Jim Pillen was sworn in Thursday as Nebraska’s 41st governor. In his inaugural address Pillen said he hopes to control spending and change tax codes in the state. He also said he plans to demonstrate fiscal conservatism and keep state government small.
Meet Jim. Conservative Republican Jim Pillen was sworn in as Nebraska's 41st governor on January 5, 2023. Jim grew up on a farm in Platte County, Nebraska and raised pigs with his father, Dale. Jim graduated from Lakeview High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from UNL, and married Suzanne Shreve.
