(WFFT) – Shirley Rork with Just Neighbors in Fort Wayne works to protect people from having to wear what she calls the ‘Scarlet E.’. “It’s extremely difficult for people to find a place once they have an eviction,” Rork said. She says there are about 65 eviction filings a week in the state of Indiana.
The Eviction Diversion program is an initiative that came out of a partnership between the City of Fort Wayne, Just Neighbors, Allen County Superior Court, Indiana Legal Services, and United Way of Allen County’s Emergency Relief Fund efforts with the goal of decreasing evictions due to nonpayment.
Just Neighbors Eviction Intervention Program (EIP) has staff at the Allen County Small Claims court for all Eviction Hearings. The EIP staff work with any tenant facing eviction to help them navigate the eviction process while also connecting them to services to help them remain housed when possible.
